What causes Psoriasis?Psoriasis is the result of a Chronic Immune System condition and presents itself as itchy, scaly patches on the skin. People who suffer from Psoriasis shed skin cells and create new ones much faster than those with a healthy Immune System. For those without Psoriasis, this process takes approximately one month. For those with Psoriasis, it happens over the course of approximately 3-4 days, resulting in a build-up of new skin cells on the skin’s surface. This build-up of Skin Cells is the cause of the Plaques that Psoriasis is known for. The Dermatologists at Bella Dermatology have a wide range of experience and can provide the information you need to fully understand Psoriasis and the treatment options.
How is Psoriasis treated? There are several different treatments for Psoriasis, and these vary depending on each patient’s needs and the severity of their condition. For some people, mild topical treatments may be enough. These include salicylic acid, vitamin D analogs, calcineurin inhibitors, topical retinoids, and corticosteroids. For others, oral prescription medication or injectable treatments may be necessary. Phototherapy has also been shown to have a positive impact on many patients with Psoriasis. Phototherapy may include UV treatments performed at your dermatologist’s office or could simply mean increasing your daily exposure to natural sunlight. At Bella Dermatology, we believe in taking the time to get to know each of our patients on an individual basis so that we can offer personalized care and treatment that delivers the best possible results. Our Dermatologists provide a wide range of treatment options that can be tailored to specifically address your unique Psoriasis symptoms and help you find clear skin free from irritation.
